Embattled Brøndby FC chairman Per Bjerregaard escaped from an extraordinary general meeting last night with his position intact.
The meeting was called following recent resignations of several of the club’s most important management figures as well as growing frustration among fans after several seasons during which the former powerhouse has struggled on the pitch.
The management came under fire from the very first minute by the 1,400 fans and shareholders who attended.
The key figure, chairman Per Bjerregaard, who suffers from cancer, was absent from the meeting as he was too ill to attend. He had written a speech in which he blamed the media for all the troubles concerning the club’s finances, ownership structure and the management’s relationship with fans.
“Luckily, reality paints a completely different picture,” he wrote in his speech, which was read aloud by another member of the board.
All rumours of a possible return of former sports director Anders Bjerregaard in an official role at the club, were laid to rest. The chairman’s son was mentioned in a possible consultancy role at the club “at a level equal to everyone else”.
It also emerged that within the next two weeks, a new managing director will be presented to the club following the recent resignation of current MD Ole Palmå, who will step down this summer.
Shareholders were also informed about a new major sponsor and of the club’s ambitions for winning the league championship in the 2012/13 season.
