A 48-year-old man from the town of Herning has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty today of the New Year’s Eve murder of 20-year-old Maria Møller Christensen.
Jan Erik Henriksen was sentenced to two years more than what was requested by the prosecution.
Christensen was found in a basement on Rolighedsvej in Herning on New Year’s Day.
The judge handing down the sentence emphasised that Christensen was heavily intoxicated and in a helpless state when the attack took place, and that she and Henriksen did not know each other
She added that although Henriksen was not charged with rape, an autopsy showed that forced sexual activities took place, and that this was also taken into consideration during sentencing.
Henriksen was also convicted of indecent exposure by another woman who received a movie clip of him masturbating sent from his mobile phone.
The verdict was on DNA evidence found on Henriksen’s shoe and Christensen’s body.
Henriksen has not yet decided whether he will appeal the sentence.
The prosecution has asked that Henriksen be remanded in custody while he makes his decision.
