Long-haul truck drivers looking to find a secure place to catch up on their sleep in the middle of a route can now look forward to Scandinavia’s first supervised rest stop on the south Danish island of Falster.

The truck stop in Nørre Alslev will open in 2010 with CCTV and monitored entrance to make the resting drivers feel more secure.

‘A truck driver that is sleeping with one eye open, because he’s afraid of being attacked, doesn’t sleep particularly well and is not the safest in traffic the next day,’ said Karsten Fink of consultancy group Grontmilj-Carl Bro to public broadcaster DR.
