Danish tennis banks on Wozniacki
She's only 16, but Caroline Wozniacki is already being touted as the future of Danish tennis
After her crowning as the Wimbeldon junior champion, Caroline Wozniacki was lauded in Tivoli Tuesday by the Danish Tennis Union, which is hoping for a resurgence in Denmark's international representation, according to daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende.
'Caroline makes a fantastic ambassador for herself and for Danish tennis,' says Johan Sjögren, head of top athletes for the Danish Tennis Union. 'She works hard on and off the court. She still has a lot to learn technically, but her attitude towards training is outstanding.'
Wozniacki's attitude and dedication make her a role model for young Danish tennis players and a fore-figure in Danish tennis. The Danish Tennis Union has some 70,000 members and 300 clubs around the country.
Sjögren is excited about the future of the Danish tennis star, but says patience is the key.
'Everything indicates that Caroline will go far, but things take time.'
Wozniacki has some experience at the professional level, but despite her Wimbeldon victory she was not eligible for an automatic qualification to the US Open at the senior-level.
Nevertheless, Wozniacki has high hopes for her future.
'Until I turn 17 I can only qualify through wild-cards. But I plan to play in the big tournaments via the qualification rounds.'
