US embassy re-opened after bomb scare
Copenhagen's police sounded the bomb alarm at the US embassy in Copenhagen Tuesday morning
The US embassy in Copenhagen's Østerbro district was cordoned off Tuesday morning after the Copenhagen Police arrested a man carrying a suspicious package.
The man, who was spotted by security staff outside the embassy, appeared confused and possibly mentally ill, according to public service broadcaster DR.
Police said the bomb alert triggered a series of planned responses, including the closing off a large area outside the embassy stretching from Olso Square adjacent to Østerport station to the Trianglen intersection, approximately two city blocks from the embassy.
The embassy was reopened a few hours following the event.
The man's package was found to contain a pocket knife, clock, batteries and a compass wrapped in gaffer tape. It will be further examined by bomb squad technicians.
