Danish woman slain in Jamaica

Mystery surrounds the brutal killing of a 37-year old Danish national who had made a home on Jamaica's west coast

It is a riddle what happened in the gruesome murder of a pregnant Danish woman at her home in Jamaica. Local police investigators have ruled out robbery as a motive in the killing, according to a report in the Jamaica Observer.

Police in the city of Green Island where Henrietta Jensen, a 37-year old Danish national, lived said the woman had machete wounds all over her body. Both legs and her right arm were also amputated.

A friend reportedly gave Jensen a ride to her home in Abimgdom Property, Hanover, at 6:45 pm on Thursday, according to local police.

About 11:45 pm, her fiancée, native to Jamaica, arrived home and discovered her dismembered body in a pool of blood in their bedroom. On scene investigators said the front door of the house had been kicked in.

Theft is not considered a motive in the killing as the assailant had not removed the woman's wedding ring or taken the considerable amount of US currency found at the house.

The engaged couple, who were expecting their first child, owned the Half Moon Bar & Restaurant in Green Island on Jamaica's west coast.

Jensen had worked as a tour guide for several years before moving permanently to Jamaica three years ago. Before she moved, the Danish national had been living in Malmö, Sweden, where her mother still resides, according to Swedish daily Aftonbladet.

Aftonbladet also reported that the machete used in the murder was the same as one used for gardening at the Half Moon Bar & Restaurant.

The woman's financée, who was at the restaurant at the time of the murder, said he was not prepared to speak about the event yet.

'It's just too much. The thought that a murderer is walking free makes us dreadfully uneasy. We can't sleep at night,' said the fiancée's sister. 'Imagine if the person strikes again.'

The deceased woman's fiancée and family have offered a DKK 161,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.
