Tonight’s final games of the group rounds of the men’s handball world championship will make for a thrilling showdown between Denmark and Scandinavian rival, Norway.

The two teams have jointly topped group D since the tournament began in Croatia last weekend, but a series of Norwegian errors in last night’s game saw the Danes jump to the top of the group with eight points and secure a pass to the next round.

Traditionally strong side Norway lost to Serbia 27-26 in an error-filled game, but will still advance because the top three teams in the group progress.

Denmark got revenge over Egypt for the humiliating Olympic loss, by beating the discouraged African champions 26-17 last night. The game lacked a strong offence, but a fine display from goalkeeper Kasper Hvidt earned him the player of the match award.

Denmark and Norway face each other in the final group game this evening and coach Ulrik Wilbek is playing his cards close to his chest. For the first time in the tournament, Wilbek has decided not to publish the team list until the last hour before the game in a move designed to unnerve the opposition.
